The Archaeological Museum of Eivissa and Formentera (MAEF) starts “La teva peça del MAEF”, a cycle of short audiovisuals in which the museum team and its research collaborators will choose each week a piece of the MAEF collection to analyze it with an informative character. The aim of the initiative is to disseminate among the public the heritage of the museum center; extraordinary pieces that are part of its collections, some of them not currently on display.

The MAEF has selected a total of ten archaeological pieces from Eivissa and Formentera representing various periods in the history of the islands, such as prehistory, starring a set of bone buttons from the megalithic tomb of Ca na Costa (Formentera) or several pieces from the Phoenician-Punic period, such as the Phoenician inscription engraved on a bone plate recovered in the excavations of Joan Planells street in Eivissa, near the necropolis of Puig des Molins; the Roman period, such as the votive mirrors recovered in two tombs in the necropolis of Via Punica, 34, in the city of Eivissa, and also from the medieval period, of which a piece of underwater origin stands out: the candelabrum from the Caliphate period recovered near the Illes Bledes, on the west coast of Eivissa.

The cycle opens with the historian Antoni Ferrer Abárzuza, who presents one of the artistic treasures of medieval Eivissa: the coffered ceiling of the University of Eivissa, now home to the Archaeological Museum of Dalt Vila, a key piece of our history.
