The Council of Industry has agreed this Thursday not to propose the declaration of strategic industrial project the proposed investment of a photovoltaic park on the land of Son Bonet, in the municipality of Marratxí, because, in addition to the unfavorable report of the City Council of Marratxí, the project does not include any additional compensatory measures within those of a photovoltaic park that imply an added value for its declaration as a strategic industrial project.

The planned action, which has not been approved by the Industry Council, consisted of the installation of a 19,391 kWp photovoltaic park on the grounds of the Son Bonet airport, in the municipality of Marratxí. With a total occupation of 19.89 hectares, the photovoltaic installation of 32,318 solar panels of 600 Wp of unitary power, 95 inverters of 185 kVA each, four transformation transformation centers and a delivery and measurement substation were foreseen. The evacuation of the energy generated would be carried out by means of a buried line inside the Son Orlandis substation.

In this sense, the Vice-president of the Government and Councilor of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, Juan Pedro Yllanes, has stated that “there is a high social rejection to the project. We must bear in mind that the generation of distributed energy must have the greatest possible consensus, and this has not been given in this case”. For this reason, said the vice-president, “we understand that the territory to be occupied is for social use, and we believe that this use should be guaranteed close to the population centers. In addition, I would like to remind that AENA can install solar panels in its buildings, such as the Son Sant Joan Airport, as well as cover parking lots to promote self-consumption”.

For his part, the general director of Energy and Climate Change, Pep Malagrava, said after the meeting of the Industry Council that “photovoltaic projects can be more or less controversial, but it is true that in no case have we had more than 1,500 allegations. Therefore, photovoltaic parks that do not have a minimum consensus and do not provide added value to the generation of renewable energy cannot be strategic for the Community”.

Likewise, the general director of Industrial Policy, Antoni Morro, reminded that “a sine qua non condition when granting a project the status of strategic industrial project is to have the approval of the municipal authorities”.
