The president of the Govern, Francina Armengol, announced today that the Autonomous Community’s Budget Bill for 2022 allocates 2,010 million euros to health. This figure represents an increase of 4% over the 2021 budget and 53% – nearly 700 million euros more – compared to 2015.

“We will continue to strengthen our public health with the highest health budget in history,” said the president, who stressed that for the last six years investment in health has been a priority for the Govern: “when we began to govern, we were very clear that health would be a priority and the pandemic has shown us that we were on the right track”, said the president, to also recall that since 2015, the health budget has increased by nearly 700 million, which translates into “infrastructures that are being developed, more technology for hospitals, a chronicity plan, a mental health plan or also in a very special way the increase of the workforce, the improvement of their working conditions and the reduction of intermittency”.

The president has made these statements after her participation in the welcome day for part of the nursing staff who are incorporated into their Son Espases post for having passed the competitive examination called in 2018. During the event, she recalled that the healthcare budget “is not an expense, but the most important investment” and thanked the “generosity, dedication and example” of the nursing staff and healthcare personnel.

For her part, the Councilor for Health and Consumer Affairs, Patricia Gómez, congratulated the nursing staff who have obtained a permanent position and encouraged them to take advantage of the training and research opportunities offered by the public health system.

A total of 479 people are progressively joining the different health centers under the management of the Hospital Universitario Son Espases – Sector Poniente. These 479 professionals represent 46.2% of the total of 1,036 vacancies called by the Health Service in 2018 and to which 83 midwife vacancies have to be added.

Of the 479 people who have to be incorporated to their place in the reference hospital, 246 were already working in different units of the Hospital, while the remaining 233 were working in other territorial managements of the Health Service or in other autonomous communities. They have had the whole month of October to join the Hospital progressively. At present, 351 people have already joined the Hospital.

The incorporation of such a high volume of professionals has been complex, since it has been planned to guarantee the correct health care. To make this possible, Son Espases has hired 85 nursing professionals until January 15, 2022. In addition, all nursing contracts have been renewed by COVID-19, which number 79.

President Armengol and Councilor Gómez attended the welcome day that Son Espases has organized for the new professionals with a permanent position, accompanied by the managing director of the University Hospital Son Espases, Josep Pomar, and the director of Nursing, Juan Manuel Gavala.

The aim of the welcome day for new professionals -the second one organized by the Management due to the large number of attendees- is to welcome the new incorporations and provide them with the necessary information for a quick adaptation to the different care services and a good integration in the different teams.

The heads of the laboratory, pharmacy, blood bank and radiology departments were responsible for explaining how these care units work. A part of the day was dedicated to explaining the HCD (Digital Health Record) and the tools that facilitate its use by professionals.
