“The aim of the Memory Conference is to show the public that research into this area is very much alive,” explains the regional secretary, Jesús Jurado, “that there are people who are dedicated to and advancing knowledge about one of the darkest periods of our contemporary history, and at the same time the conference gives us an insight into the amount of work that still needs to be done. It is a task that is worked on from various disciplines, and which deals with many aspects of democratic memory, such as justice, history and human rights”.

The Directorate General for Democratic Memory has invited around twenty professionals from the State to take part in this cycle, recognised for their research and dissemination of different episodes of history related to democratic memory, who will offer their vision from very different disciplines. This is the case of David Ginard, Pau Tomàs, Joan Pérez, Pere Bueno, Lisa Berger, Anton Gandarias, José Miguel Santacreu, Francesc Busquets, Jordi Ramos, Núria Armentano, Catalina Moragues, Maria Eugènia Jaume, Jaume Servera, Lourdes Herrasti, Fernando Alcalde, Francisco Ferrándiz, Anna Miñarro, Chon Vargas Mendieta, Laura Muñoz, Eugenio Merino, Queralt Solé, Joan Pons, Josep Maria Quintana, Francesc Tutzó, Julián Casanova, Almudena García-Rubio, Josep Maria Solé and Montse Armengou.

All the speakers have been chosen by the members of the Commission of Graves and Disappeared Persons and the Commission of Memory and Democratic Acknowledgements of the Balearic Islands Government, with the aim of showing the spirit of these commissions; that is, the multidisciplinary nature of democratic memory. Thus, the conference programme includes presentations by specialists in the fields of the judiciary, psychology, history, archaeology, art and anthropology, as well as direct family testimonies as the main researchers.

No prior registration is required to attend the different presentations, and those interested can go to the event ten minutes beforehand to collect their tickets. Please note that seating capacity is limited according to the characteristics of each venue.
