Caution and self-protection advice should be taken into account in view of the possibility of flooding in the coming hours.
The Directorate General of Emergencies and the Interior has decreed Severity Index 1 (IG-1) of the Special Plan to address the risk of flooding in Mallorca and Menorca, and IG-0 in Eivissa and Formentera in view of the forecast that heavy rains will continue, especially in the Serra de Tramuntana area, where the orange alert for rainfall is still active, so extreme caution is recommended in these municipalities and in those that may be affected by the overflowing of a torrent.

The IG1 is activated when meteorological information indicates that the rains could cause significant damage to people and property. It includes localised flooding that can be resolved with the means available in the affected areas but which must be monitored at supra-municipal level.

On the other hand, the IG0 is decreed when it is foreseen that the rains may generate flooding with little probability of causing significant damage. It also corresponds to incidents that can be controlled locally.

Given the possibility of flooding as a result of persistent rains that will last until the weekend, the Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior reminds citizens to exercise extreme caution when travelling by road: to drive preferably on motorways, dual carriageways and main roads; to moderate speed and increase the safety distance; not to stop on a bridge; not to enter flooded areas; to avoid subways and tunnels; if the car starts to float and is swept away, to leave immediately; and to abandon the vehicle and leave towards higher ground if the car is immobilised by water or the water level reaches the axle.

It is also advised not to cross flooded areas and torrents on foot or with a vehicle; not to park on bridges, pavements or river mouths; not to go near promenades, breakwaters or cliffs and not to carry out outdoor or mountain activities. On the other hand, the DGEI asks to pay special attention at home, adopting measures to prevent water from entering the houses; remove from outside everything that can be swept away; disconnect electrical appliances; do not take refuge in basements and garages and stay in the upper areas of the house.

In order to foresee the situation that will occur in the coming hours and to coordinate possible joint actions, the DGEI has met today at midday the Technical Support Group of the Plan with representatives of all the agencies involved in this type of episodes.
