The oboe is an instrument that united the two great composers of the Central European Baroque. Handel and Bach made this instrument the protagonist of many of their compositions. In this case, Handel with his oboe concerto and Bach with his double concerto for violin and oboe demonstrate all the versatility and skill of the instrument. In addition, on this occasion we add the peculiarity of the Viennese oboe, with a very specific technique and sonority, which, unlike the French oboe, demonstrates its virtuosity more clearly. For this we have Martin Gabriel, legendary soloist of the Vienna Philharmonic, and the leading exponent of the Viennese oboe.
Finally, the Symphony will perform A. Bruckner’s Symphony No. 6, a work of great expressiveness and beauty. Although there are many characteristic features of Bruckner’s symphonies, it differs substantially from his general output. His harmony contains bold and subtle moments and shows a mastery of classical forms that came to impress Brahms.
This concert will be repeated the following day at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of Manacor.
For this concert, the Symphonic Academy returns, a project that was born in 2016 with the following objectives: to give students the opportunity to play with a professional orchestra and to promote it among young students; to deepen musical knowledge from the experience of living in first person what an orchestra is.
Martin Gabriel was born in Vienna in 1956 into a family of musicians. He studied oboe at the Vienna University of Music. Shortly after graduating with distinction he became first assistant oboist of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In 1982, he was solo oboist at the Wiener Volksoper; since 1983 he has been a member of the orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper. She soon joined the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and became solo oboist with both orchestras in 1988.
During 2016, Nina Heidenreich was soloist of the second violins of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, from 2008 to 2016 soloist of the second violins of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, Doha (Qatar), an orchestra founded and chaired by Lorin Maazel. From 2007 to 2008, Nina was the concertmaster of the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, Portugal. In 1999 she began further studies with Julian Rachlin at the Vienna Conservatory. As a soloist and chamber musician she performed at several festivals: Keshet Eilon (Israel), Bracciano Music Festival (Rome), Ost-West-Musikfest (Krems, Austria), Donaufestival (Germany), Neuberger Kulturtage (Neuberg, Austria) and Castleton Festival (Virginia).
