Inca Town Council has launched an educational plan to promote the park and develop educational activities aimed at primary school students. Thus, since November, every Tuesday and Friday morning, workshops have been held for the schools of the capital of Raiguer.

“The purpose of this project is to offer schools a set of educational activities for primary education courses, which are carried out in this emblematic natural space of Inca. Therefore, we want to provide the opportunity to bring the educational curriculum, which focuses on school, in another environment, in an open space surrounded by nature,” explains the councillor for the Environment, Helena Cayetano.
The main objective of this initiative is to raise awareness among the municipality’s schools of the educational and leisure potential offered by the Serral de Ses Monges Park. In addition, the aim is also to promote educational and training activities to contribute to the improvement of children’s knowledge and sensitivity in the field of the environment.
The workshops are divided by educational levels, from first to sixth grade, and by different environmental themes. To enjoy these educational and training activities, it is necessary to book in advance. A meeting is then held with the centres to explain the plan, resolve possible doubts and gather their proposals. On the other hand, in order to improve and consolidate these visits, a post-evaluation is carried out on each visit and surveys are provided to the teaching staff and students to evaluate the activity carried out.
“We are very satisfied with the good reception of this initiative by the schools in Inca. We have already used up all the places available until May and we estimate that this year around 1,000 children will pass through the Serral de Ses Monges, emphasises the mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno.
This plan is carried out jointly by the Environment area and the training area of the Inca Town Council. The students of the Inca Educa SOIB Jove Formació i Ocupació training project for leisure monitors are responsible for developing the visits and the different workshops. In addition, they have also been responsible for designing the material for the activities. Inca Educa is a project funded by SOIB with the participation of SEPE, Youth Guarantee and the European Social Fund.
The Serral de Ses Monges Park is an urban green area located in the northern part of the municipality of Inca, right on the edge of the city centre. It has an approximate extension of 74,000 m2 and has a leisure area and an organic farming area (urban gardens) for the citizens of the municipality.
