This action, 100% subsidised by the Regional Ministry, will allow 539 pupils to improve their oral proficiency in foreign languages this summer.

Among the novelties of this edition is the fact that the programmes are doubled, so that the English language immersion programmes are extended with two more language immersion programmes, in French and German. For the first time, this call for applications is aimed at ESO students, specifically in the fourth year, to also improve their linguistic competence in the second foreign language. In addition, the number of places has been increased by more than a hundred, as the last call, in 2019, was 416.

A maximum amount of 400,000 euros is allocated to call a total of 539 grants to participate in one of the following four language immersion programmes in foreign languages:

Intensive English language immersion course abroad (Dublin, Ireland) lasting 2 weeks, with a total of 45-50 teaching hours, aimed at students who in the 2021-2022 school year are enrolled in the fourth year of ESO in publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The number of grants for this modality will be 135 grants, distributed by islands as follows: 103 for Mallorca, 12 for Menorca and 20 for Ibiza and Formentera.
Intensive French language immersion course abroad (Nantes, France) lasting 2 weeks, with a total of 45-50 teaching hours, aimed at students who in the 2021-2022 school year are enrolled in the fourth year of ESO in publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The number of grants for this modality will be 10 grants, distributed by islands as follows: 7 for Mallorca, 1 for Menorca and 2 for Ibiza and Formentera.
Intensive German language immersion course abroad (Freiburg, Germany) lasting 2 weeks, with a total of 45-50 teaching hours, aimed at students who in the 2021-2022 school year are enrolled in the fourth year of ESO in publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The number of grants for this modality will be 27 grants, distributed by islands as follows: 20 for Mallorca, 3 for Menorca and 4 for Ibiza and Formentera.
English language summer school, lasting 10 school days (Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), with a total of 50 hours of training, including academic and recreational activities, aimed at students who in the 2021-2022 school year are enrolled in the sixth year of primary education at publicly funded schools in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The number of grants for this modality will be 367, distributed by islands as follows: 282 for Mallorca, 51 for Menorca and 34 for Ibiza and Formentera.
The summer school in English will be held in the following locations:

In Mallorca: Palma, Inca, Alcúdia and Manacor.
In Menorca: Ciutadella and Alaior.
In Ibiza: Sant Antoni de Portmany and Santa Eulària des Riu.
Selection criteria for the call for applications

The criterion for selecting students to participate in the language immersion courses abroad, both for students in the fourth year of ESO and for students in the sixth year of primary education, will be the alphabetical order of the first two letters of the first surname, followed by the second surname and the applicant’s first name.

In order to determine the surname from which the allocation will begin, two draws will be made (one for pupils in the fourth year of ESO and the other for pupils in the sixth year of primary education) at a public event to be held at the Conselleria on the first working day of May 2022.

The deadline for submitting applications is 27 March 2022 to 13 April 2022, both included.

All the information related to this call (resolution, annexes, instructions for families, planned timetable) is available for consultation on the website of the Directorate General for Early Childhood, Innovation and the Educational Community.
