The Consell de Govern has today approved the financial allocation of ten new positions for educational technical assistants (ATE) to meet the needs of students with special needs (SEN) in the schools of the Balearic Islands. The new ATEs will be hired and will be incorporated into the centres this academic year 2021-2022.
The creation and provision of these ten new positions for educational technical assistants (ATE) responds to a report by the ministry on the need to provide jobs in the professional category of educational technical assistant/iva (ATE) in the sectors of Palma (3), Inca (2) and Manacor (2) in Mallorca, Maó (1) in Menorca, as well as Ibiza (1) and Formentera (1), in the Pitiüses, for the 2021-2022 academic year. A report exposes the growing demand for the support provided by the ATE professional in public schools.
The commitment to a quality inclusive school, the increase in the number of students with a diagnosis of SEN and also the demand by families to send their children with SEN to mainstream schools mean that the ATE resources available are insufficient to provide the quality schooling that the law guarantees.
The forecast of the Regional Ministry of Education and Vocational Training is to hire these ten new technicians so that they can be incorporated into the centres this academic year 2021-2022.
