The intermediation service of the Servei d’Ocupació de les Illes Balears (SOIB) expects to manage a total of 14,000 jobs this 2022, 40% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, when the contracts managed were 9,727. In addition, the SOIB trains some 11,000 people annually.

This was announced today by the President of the Government, Francina Armengol, during a visit with the Minister of Economic Model, Tourism and Labour, Iago Negueruela, to the selection process that is being carried out these days with the supermarket chain Carrefour at its facilities in Son Cotoner (Palma).

Armengol stressed that these selection processes with such a large number of jobs on offer show that the prospects for the tourist season “are very good” and highlighted the work of labour intermediation carried out by the SOIB as an “example of public-private collaboration”. He also recalled the work carried out by this public company to help “workers to find a job suitable for their skills”. Finally, he expressed the Government’s commitment to continue strengthening the SOIB.

This selection process, or job days, will enable 200 people to be hired, with candidates being pre-selected by the SOIB Empresas service. A total of 690 candidates have been pre-selected for this process, 60 per cent of whom are women, who have been interviewed to cover Carrefour’s needs in the butcher’s, bakery, fishmonger’s, electrical appliance sales, delicatessen, oven or bar assistant, greengrocer’s, maintenance and replenishment, cashier’s and online shopping sections. The job interviews were held between Wednesday 20 and Friday 22 April, in three shifts a day.

35 job days for 3,000 jobs

From January to May this year, 35 job days have been organised or are planned to fill nearly 3,000 jobs in the hotel and tourism, commerce, transport, electricity and energy and nautical sectors. The job days are selection processes that the SOIB carries out for large and medium-sized companies. In addition, the SOIB carries out intermediation for small and medium-sized local companies through its 13 territorial centres.

Today’s visit was also attended by the director-general of Economic Model and Employment, Llorenç Pou; the director of SOIB, Pilar Ortiz, and the institutional director of Carrefour Illes Balears, Antoni Canals, among others.
