The Consell de Govern has approved today to allocate a maximum amount of 8 million euros for the next school year 2022-2023. With this allocation, the highest figure allocated to these aids to date has been reached.

It should be borne in mind that the initial allocation for the current academic year, 2021-2022, was 7 million, however, not all eligible applications could be met, so an increase of €896,713 was approved to respond to these requests.

With the new allocation, it is expected that all eligible applications for canteen subsidies that may be submitted for the next academic year 2022-2023 will be met.

In the current academic year, 2021-2022, with an allocation of €7,896,613, a total of 10,192 applications have been dealt with. Of these 10,192 applications, 9,204 have been submitted in Mallorca, 500 in Menorca, 456 in Eivissa and 32 in Formentera.

There are currently 198 public schools in the Balearic Islands with a canteen service, of which 162 are in Mallorca, 14 in Menorca and 22 in Eivissa and Formentera.

The canteen subsidies are aimed at students who, due to their family’s economic situation, unfavourable socio-familial circumstances or circumstances of travel to the school, have more difficulty paying for this service.

This aid is aimed at pupils in public and subsidised schools and in first cycle infant education centres who are users of the canteen service.

To get an idea of the evolution of the canteen subsidies, it is sufficient to compare the figures for the 2014-2015 academic year, in which 1,433 pupils benefited from the subsidies, with a budget of 800,000 euros, and the current figures of 10,192 pupils and almost 8 million euros.
