The Official State Gazette (BOE) publishes the modification of the Order of 22 June 1995, which regulates the National Awards of the Ministry of Culture and Sport.

This modification involves, on the one hand, the creation of the new National Film and Audiovisual Heritage Award and, on the other hand, the revision of the endowment of some National Awards in their different modalities.

With the creation of the National Film and Audiovisual Heritage Award, the aim is to highlight the work of people, institutions and organisations that have developed or are developing initiatives and projects for the recovery, conservation and dissemination of film and audiovisual heritage.

The Institutional Declaration of Spanish Cinema Day, on 6th October, by the Council of Ministers, as well as the legislative initiatives that are currently being processed, especially the new Law on Cinema and Audiovisual Culture, show the current interest in the subject and the opportunity to recognise the work of people and institutions that have contributed and contribute to the recovery and safeguarding of this heritage.

The recognition by the United Nations General Assembly at its 33rd General Assembly on 27 October as World Day for Audiovisual Heritage and the recommendations of the European Union on preservation and online accessibility to film and audiovisual heritage are some of the initiatives that have also been taken into account for the creation of this National Award.

Endowments of the National Awards
With regard to the economic endowments of the National Awards, the Order includes the following modifications that will be in force in 2023:

The National Prize for Spanish Literature increases its endowment in order to give it the special relevance it deserves in the field of literature in Spain. The amount is 50,000 euros.
In addition, the National Prizes for Literature, Spanish History, Best Translation, Work of a Translator, Cultural Journalism, Comics and Illustration have been increased to 30,000 euros.
The National Prizes for the Best Cultural Publishing Work and for the Promotion of Reading, which to date have been honorary, will also receive 30,000 euros in prize money.
