The students and teachers of vocational training in Mallorca who have participated in European mobility programmes this academic year 2021-2022 received a diploma of recognition today. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Balearic Islands Government, Francina Armengol, and the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Martí March, as well as other authorities, students and teachers from the schools. Similar events are planned for Menorca and the Pitiusas Islands.
The President of the Government defined vocational training as “the present in order to have a future” and said that these types of exchanges “not only make us all better but are also an opportunity to build Europe, enabling people who perhaps without the scholarships could not have afforded or imagined it to get to know other realities, enrich themselves and all of us”.
Armengol also thanked the families who “believe that training and education is the best social lever” and the educational staff “who are encouraged in innovative projects that give a plus”.
Councillor Martí March highlighted the good work being done in the Balearic Islands in terms of European projects and explained that “our objective is to internationalise the majority of public and state-subsidised centres in the Balearic Islands that offer vocational training courses, as well as increasing the percentage of student mobility”. He also announced that the new Erasmus+ 2021-2027 programme allows mobility outside the European Union, in practically any country in the world, and therefore from the 2022-2023 academic year the Regional Ministry of Education and Vocational Training will offer Erasmus+ grants to students and teachers of VET and vocational training to be able to travel not only in Europe but in any continent.
During the celebration, representatives of students and teachers from the different VET cycles also took part in the event, sharing their experience of European mobility with the attendees. In addition, two students from the Conservatory of the Balearic Islands enlivened the event with a voice and piano duet.
In the 2021-2022 academic year, 582 Erasmus+ grants have been awarded to students and teachers of vocational training and professional artistic education in plastic arts and design from 56 centres in the Balearic Islands. These grants are part of the Erasmus+ EuroFP Balearic Islands V project, which was submitted by the Regional Ministry in the 2019 Erasmus+ KA102 call for proposals and was completed this year. It obtained the seventh-best score out of a total of 542 projects submitted in Spain and has received funding of €1,153,946, the fourth-highest amount in Spain. The project has made it possible to apply for an Erasmus+ grant for students and teachers to carry out a training stay in a country participating in the 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years.
The selected students carry out work placements in companies, either extracurricular or valid for hours of the Workplace Training module, for a duration of between two weeks and twelve months, either during their training cycle or during the year after graduation. In addition, the centres also receive aid for the teachers of the selected students to travel to the destination to prepare or supervise the internships, and for trainers from European companies to collaborate in teaching at the centres in the Balearic Islands for a period of one week.
On the other hand, teachers are given training placements in companies lasting one or two weeks, and observation or teaching periods in VET centres or companies lasting between two and sixty days.
All Erasmus+ grants offered by the Regional Ministry and the schools are fully funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.
