During the reception, which was attended by the President of the Government, Francina Armengol, and the Councillors for Health and Consumer Affairs, Patricia Gómez, and for Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago, the children were presented with gifts and the work of the families who decide to take in a child from the Saharawi camps in Tindouf (Algeria) during the summer months was acknowledged.
The President of the Government thanked the host families, “men and women who demonstrate the solidarity of our people”, for their work because “there are always people willing to help, in this case, children who need to get out of the high temperatures, have a medical check-up and get to know other cultures”.
Francina Armengol also stressed “the ties of friendship” between the Balearic Islands and the Saharawi people, and assured that the government would continue to “support the Saharawi people and international agreements”.
The Holidays in Peace programme has resumed this year after two years without being able to do so as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During their stay in the Balearic Islands, the Saharawi children have, in addition to the opportunity to get to know another culture and customs, scheduled medical appointments through the Health Service to guarantee their health.
The event was also attended by the president of the Association of Friends of the Saharawi People of the Balearic Islands, Catalina Rosselló, and the Saharawi delegate representative in the Balearic Islands, Ehmudi Lebsir.
