The Balearic Islands Environment Conferences are celebrating their eighth edition, with sessions in Menorca on 15 and 16 December 2022. These scientific conferences organised by the Natural History Society of the Balearic Islands (SHNB) in collaboration with the University of the Balearic Islands, the Balearic Government and the Menorcan Institute of Studies, and will be held on each of the islands between 23 November 2022 and 24 January 2023, aim to provide a space for researchers and naturalists to learn about the scientific work that has the Balearic Islands as a common denominator.

In this way, naturalists will be able to find out what work is being carried out in fields other than their own, as environmental aspects are particularly sensitive to the integration of knowledge from apparently distant fields. The conference will serve to present the findings and naturalist research of recent years, disseminate the activities to the general public, stimulate the exchange of experiences and provide information on issues related to the environment.

Dates of the conference

Palma: 23rd, 24th and 25th November 2022, at the UIB.
Brick: 15 and 16 December 2022, at the IME.
Eivissa: 19 and 20 January 2023, at the headquarters of Eivissa and Formentera of the UIB.
Formentera: 23 and 24 January 2023.

In addition to the presentations by registered participants, the conference will feature more than a dozen guest lectures and a round table discussion on how to mitigate climate change and its effect on the management of nature in the Balearic Islands. Among the participants of this round table will be representatives of the SHNB, the island councils of each island, the Biodiversity Directorate, the R+D+i Directorate, the UIB and the GOB.

Prize of the Conference

With the intention of encouraging research by young scientists, the organising committee will also award a prize of 300 euros for the best paper presented by students registered for the conference.
