Regarding the Demand Units (DU), Manacor-Felanitx, Tramuntana Norte and Eivissa enter the pre-alert scenario, adding to the 4 that already were (Pla de Mallorca, Artà, Migjorn de Mallorca and Formentera). Therefore, only three UDs remain in the normal scenario (Menorca, Tramuntana Sur and Palma-Alcúdia).

Data from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) indicate that in the Balearic Islands as a whole, August was a wet month, with 24 l/m2, slightly above the historical average (20 l/m2). Thus, in Menorca it was a very wet month with 61.2 l/m2 when the historical average is 18 l/m2; in Mallorca, it was normal, with 21.2 l/m2 (historical average: 20.7 l/m2); in Eivissa it was dry (6.5 l/m2 when the historical average is 17.3 l/m2); and, in Formentera, it was also dry (1.9 l/m2 as opposed to the average of 12.6 l/m2).

The percentage of interannual rainfall in the Balearic Islands is 8% higher than the historical average. By islands: Mallorca: 3%; Menorca: 19%; and Pitiusas: 33%.

The lack of rainfall typical of the summer and the abstractions have caused a generalised decrease in all the DUs. Considering the current situation and the forecasts, it is quite likely that at the end of September the UD Menorca and Palma-Alcudia will enter the pre-alert scenario.
