The Inca Town Council is working hard to prepare for the start of the new school year and the reactivation of sports activities. For this reason, during the last few weeks, important actions have been carried out in the Mateu Cañellas Municipal Sports Centre, which is part of the commitment of the Town Council of the Capital of Raiguer to modernise and improve public sports facilities.

Thus, a new multi-sports court has been created in the old hockey rink, prepared for the practice of multiple sports. Two sets of basketball baskets, a complete set of volleyball equipment, a referee’s chair, a set of hockey goals and a set of futsal goals have also been installed.

“We continue to work to expand and renovate the municipality’s public spaces, while at the same time trying to respond to user requests. The adaptation of these areas allows the expansion of the facilities and will help to decongest the central courts,” says the councillor for Sports of the City Council of Inca, Antoni Peña.

On the other hand, artificial grass has been installed on the curves of the athletics track to create new warm-up and training areas, suitable for exercise and athletics. Specifically, in addition to the warm-up areas, a multi-purpose track has been built in the area between the football pitch and the athletics track.

Over the next few weeks, more equipment is planned to be installed for the practice of different athletic disciplines. Improvements will also be made to the water channelling and drainage system.

As for the athletics track, the installation has been adapted and the surface has been smoothed so that it can be used in optimum conditions of safety and comfort, in accordance with the agreement with the clubs in the area. In addition, the lanes and marking lines have been repainted.

“After talking with all the local athletics groups of the city, we have agreed to adopt this temporary solution in order not to interfere with the beginning of the season and so that the athletes can start training normally”, explains the Mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno.

In this sense, Moreno also stresses that “now we have to continue working together in the rehabilitation of this space and the implementation of a new optimal solution that allows us to continue advancing in the modernization and improvement of municipal sports facilities. We would like to thank the involvement and collaboration of the city’s clubs and their users”.

Thus, now the objective of the Inca City Council and the clubs are the equipment of a new athletics track, much more modern and of high quality so that it adapts to the needs and uses of all the users. The intention is that the new athletics track, one of the most important sports facilities in the city, can be a reality by 2023.
