The Regional Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, through the Directorate General for Planning, Organisation and Centres, has produced material to inform families about the new LOMLOE assessments for the new primary, ESO and Baccalaureate courses starting in the 2022/23 academic year. This information has been sent to the centres at the beginning of this week, in an editable format in case they want to modify it, with the aim of sending it to all families with children attending school in the Balearic Islands at the affected levels.

The new way of assessing learning will begin to be applied this year to all infant school pupils, and in the lower grades of primary, ESO and Baccalaureate.

The main change is that the report cards that were traditionally issued every term will disappear and there will be no numerical marks, except in the Baccalaureate.

More detailed and permanent information

Throughout the course, families will be continuously informed of the student’s learning process. Families will be able to monitor the progress of each student through the GESTIB Family Portal so that they will be able to see the assessment criteria that have been assessed by the teachers of each subject and those that have yet to be assessed. They will know the degree of achievement of the evaluation criteria of the competencies of each area or subject at any time during the course with this graduation: completely, mostly, sufficiently, little or not at all.

At least once a term, schools have to verify that parents have accessed the information on the GestiB Portal. If they have not done so, they have to send them the assessment information in writing.

At the end of the school year, the families of pupils in 1st, 3rd and 5th Primary will receive the grades for the areas without numerical assessments, from Excellent to Insufficient.

In the case of the families of pupils in 1st and 3rd ESO, they will also receive, in addition to the subject grades, a report on the degree of development of the key competencies. In this case, the following will be used: optimal, adequate, basic, inadequate or non-existent. The 8 key competencies are:

a) Competence in linguistic communication

b) Multilingual competence

c) Mathematical competence and competence in science, technology and engineering

d) Digital competence

e) Personal, social and learning to learn competence

f) Citizenship competence

g) Entrepreneurial competence

h) Competence in cultural awareness and expression

As for students in the 1st year of the baccalaureate, they will receive the grade for the subjects with a numerical mark from 0 to 10, in addition to the report on the degree of development of the 8 key competencies.
