The councillor for the Presidency, Public Function and Equality, Mercedes Garrido, accompanied by the managing director of the Balearic School of Public Administration, María del Carmen Iglesias, visited the shooting gallery of the Calvià Local Police, where the students of the training course for local police officers on the island of Eivissa are currently doing their shooting practice.

There are 19 students, 17 men and 2 women, who are part of the second course which is decentralised in Eivissa and who have to travel to Mallorca only for these practices since the other islands do not have this type of infrastructure.

In total, there are 5 career civil servants and 14 interims, corresponding to the 43rd promotion of the course, which is expected to finish towards the end of the year, to reinforce the police presence in Eivissa.

The councillor thanked them for their step forward in their commitment to a profession “of service to the public, with a great vocation for public service and with the maximum professionalism and responsibility that it requires”. In this sense, he explained that “they will be the first to arrive at any emergency or risk situation and will respond to the first call for help from the public, which is why we are grateful for the decision they have taken to form part of the local police force”.

Garrido stressed the Government’s support for the local police force and said that “we will finish the legislature with more than 500 new local police officers”. In addition, the councillor reminded that yesterday the registration period for the unified process of competitive examinations for local police opened, with 135 places; that this legislature has decentralised the training courses to the rest of the islands, and that the economic reinforcement of the local police is maintained, with 2.4 million euros for the Public Safety Fund.

“The Balearic Islands are safe, and this is largely thanks to the work of the local police. We will continue to support and strengthen the force, fulfilling the commitment we made to the municipalities of the islands that demanded it”, concluded the councillor.
