The architect’s candidacy, presented by the Higher Council of Spanish Architects’ Associations, was chosen by the Jury at the meeting held on Monday 7 November. Subsequently, the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, was informed of the award, after which the prize will be awarded by Ministerial Order.

The National Architecture Prize, endowed with 60,000 euros, is promoted by the Ministry, which awards the prize on the proposal of a jury made up of prominent professionals, under the honorary presidency of Raquel Sánchez.

In proposing the Emilio Tuñón Álvarez Prize, the jury especially highlights the coherence of his architectural work, which naturally reflects his theoretical concerns, his mastery of construction techniques, his vocation to serve society and which can only be understood from his rigorous academic trajectory. As a teacher, he has managed to create a school, uniting different generations of architects thanks to his dedication and generosity.

The jury celebrates and highlights the quality and excellence of his built work, spread throughout Spain, internationally recognised and which has had a profound social impact, the result of the public component of his interventions, in most cases the result of open competitions.

His ability to find references in culture, in the world of art, literature, history or music, seeking in them paths that define his own professional practice contribute to this recognition and cultural and social impact of his work.
