Nearly 1,000 people gathered this morning at ParcBit to participate in this celebration open to employers, workers and users of the park.

To mark the 20th anniversary of ParcBit, and coincide with the Christmas holidays, the Bit Foundation has invited the whole community to chocolate with ensaimada.

The event, which took place from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., brought together around 1,000 people who came to pick up a piece of ensaimada or coca de cuarto, and a hot chocolate inside the commemorative mug commemorating the 20th anniversary of ParcBit, with which the community of the main innovation hub of the Balearic Islands was given a gift.

During the event, the community was also invited to participate in different solidarity initiatives of ParcBit companies such as Habitissimo or CEI Europe. On the one hand, in the collection of toys for the campaign “Your rights at stake” by the Red Cross Youth; and on the other hand, in the collection of personal and household cleaning products by the association Es Refugi.

Through this event, the Bit Foundation has put an end to the various activities that have been carried out this year as part of the 20th anniversary and have included institutional events, conferences, open days, and various recreational activities.

The activities that the Bit Foundation has organised for the 20th anniversary of ParcBit this year have been structured around four strategic objectives for ParcBit: the consolidation of networks through which ParcBit promotes collaboration with other parks, communities and regions; collaboration in activities on technological issues; the development of new strategies and action plans for the sector; and the recognition of the ParcBit community.

Thus, in 2022, the 20th International Conference of APTE (Association of Technology Parks of Spain) was held, an international event attended by representatives of the main technology parks in Spain; and the Annual Conference of the EEN (Enterprise Europe Network), a network promoted and co-financed by the European Commission, present in more than 50 countries and in which nearly 600 organisations participate.

Technological issues have also been an important part of the activities carried out within the framework of the 20th anniversary, highlighting activities such as the Mallorca Privacy Day organised last May by GsBit, the Balearic Association of Software, Internet and New Technologies companies, or the Smart Tourist Destinations and Data Spaces Day, organised by the Planetic platform (Spanish technological platform for the adoption and dissemination of electronic, information and communication technologies), in June, among others.

Likewise, and in order to promote and develop new strategies for the innovation sector, the agenda for this 20th anniversary included collaboration in the publication of the book “Historical industrialisation and new industry in the Balearic Islands” by Doctor in Economics Carles Manera. The Bit Foundation collaborated in the publication of this academic work, which presents a series of works on the lines of action from the point of view of industrial policy and economic policy (historical industrial sectors and emerging sectors, challenges, viability of tourism and diversification of the economy).

To reinforce the ParcBit community, in October a party and open day were held, in which the participating companies opened their doors to the more than 350 people registered from seven schools in Mallorca, as well as to the general public. During this day, which was attended by more than 600 workers, there were also performances, exhibitions, and recreational and team-building activities.

Finally, this twentieth anniversary ends with the Christmas Chocolate Party, an event that had not been held for two years due to the pandemic and which has been revived this year with a large turnout.
