\ The production of the two programmes has a cost of 147,869.65 euros, which will be used for in-house production on our islands.

The Councillor for the Presidency, Public Function and Equality, Mercedes Garrido, accompanied by the Director General of IB3, Andreu Manresa, explained the initiative of the Directorate General for Coordination, Relations with Parliament, Rights and Diversity to finance the special production of two episodes of the IB3 Televisión series Pep on co-responsibility in the care of the elderly.

Pep tells the story of Pep, a successful small businessman whose life changes when his father, Josep, is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The series, produced by Singular and directed by Ferran Bex, Juan Ortega and Miquel Verd, is now in its third season, although these two episodes are special.

Councillor Garrido explained that “the Pla Corresponsables urges governments to carry out a basic informative and educational campaign with the aim of facilitating shared care for the elderly, to raise awareness among the citizens of the Balearic Islands about this specific issue of co-responsibility, based on our current reality” and that is why the production and subsequent broadcasting of two special episodes of the Pep series will enable these objectives to be met.

The production of these two programmes with the aforementioned educational content has a cost of €147,869.65 (VAT included). The budget allocated to the Pla Corresponsables for the 2022 financial year is 190 million euros, of which 4,920,608.76 euros correspond to the Balearic Islands.

The two episodes, each lasting 44 minutes, containing the primary educational content on co-responsibility, will be broadcast on 25 December and 1 January at 10 p.m., according to IB3’s director general, Andreu Manresa. Manresa also stressed that “our radio and television are a reflection of this society, and these episodes illustrate a diverse, cross-cutting society”.

The press conference was also attended by the Director General of Coordination, Relations with Parliament, Rights and Diversity, Miquel Àngel Coll, and the Director of IB3 Televisión, Joan Carles Martorell.

As for the intellectual property of the programmes produced, 60 % will correspond to the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Function and Equality, and 40 % to the Public Entity, which will allow the Government, once the episodes have been broadcast on television, to also make the dissemination it deems appropriate.

It should be remembered that Article 4.1 of Law 15/2010, of 22 December, of the Public Entity of Radio and Television of the Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB), establishes that the purpose of the public service function of the EPRTVIB is, among others, to promote and encourage civic values, education and social responsibility, and to actively promote equality between women and men, which implies the implementation of projects included in the Pla Corresponsables, such as those relating to training plans on co-responsibility and care for men.

18% more budget for own production
The Government of the Balearic Islands is committed to in-house production, both with initiatives such as the Pep special chapters and with the increase of more than 18% in the budget allocated to in-house production. For the Government of the Balearic Islands, it is a priority to give maximum support to the Balearic Islands’ own show, in order to expand and strengthen the network of creators, professionals and companies in the audiovisual sector on our islands. For this reason, the 2023 budget foresees an increase of 1.5 million euros in the allocation for in-house production, with the aim of giving more support to the audiovisual sector of the Balearic Islands. Thus, the total appropriation for in-house production in 2023 will be €8,500,000 for television and €1,150,000 for radio.
