The agreement that guarantees the integrated fare system between Mallorca’s TIB network

The Government updates the agreement that guarantees the integrated fare system between Mallorca’s TIB network and Palma’s EMT network.

\ In 2023, users of the intermodal card will travel free of charge on any EMT line, including those to and from the airport.

The Consell de Govern has approved, at the proposal of the Conselleria de Movilidad y Vivienda, the extension of the current collaboration agreement between the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca (CTM), which manages the TIB network (train, metro and intercity bus network), and the Palma City Council and the Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Palma (EMT Palma), which guarantees the fare integration of regular passenger transport services.

On 18 March 2019, an agreement was formalised between the Consortium and EMT Palma with the aim of establishing the collaboration mechanisms to initiate fare integration between all regular public transport services in Mallorca.

More recently, the Consell de Govern of 5 December 2022 agreed that journeys made with the intermodal card on the regular TIB bus network, train and metro of Mallorca would be free of charge for the period between 1 January and 31 December 2023.

Given the changes that will occur throughout the year 2023 due to the free travel between EMT Palma buses and the TIB network of Mallorca using the citizen card and the intermodal card, it is considered necessary to establish a new article that defines the commitments of each of the parties in order to ensure the interoperability of the cards, mainly.
Thus, throughout the year, users of the intermodal card will be able to travel free of charge on any EMT line (whether transfers or journeys on the urban network only). Journeys on lines A1 and A2, the airport lines, will also be free of charge.

In this regard, it should be remembered that the free fare only applies to journeys made with the intermodal card. Therefore, bank card, single ticket and QR ticket fares remain unchanged. It is essential that card users validate their card when getting on or off the bus, just as they do when they pass through the train and metro shifts to ensure safety and facilitate the management of the public transport service. Since 1 January, the penalty for not validating the card is €0.30. Therefore, even if the service is free, you must have a balance on your intermodal card (a minimum of €5).
