AlertCops app reaches
The Ministry of the Interior’s public safety alert application AlertCops has reached more than two million downloads since its launch in 2014. Thus, citizens have been able to alert more than 120,000 risk situations related to cases of robbery, bullying, gender violence, animal abuse or fights, among others.
The AlertCops application facilitates communication between citizens and the State Security Forces and Corps to alert them to a criminal situation of which they are a victim or witness and allows them to send a geolocated alert to the police forces in a simple and intuitive way.
From the application, citizens can send live photographs and videos of compromising situations that they themselves are experiencing or witnessing and, in addition, through the geolocation of the alerts sent by them, it is possible to know exactly which patrol is closest and thus speed up the response of the Security Forces.
In addition, the system has an online translation service and works in more than 100 languages, which makes it possible for the application to be used by the millions of tourists who visit our country every year. Since its launch, the application has been extending its operation to the entire national territory and has also been adding new functionalities.
“SOS button” for women victims of gender violence
One of the new functionalities recently added was the incorporation of the “SOS Button”, aimed at women victims of gender violence.
In case of need, they can discreetly request immediate assistance from the State Security Forces and Corps. To do so, they must press the “SOS Button” on their mobile phones at least five times in less than six seconds and the system automatically forwards the alert to the nearest police centre. In addition, it records 10 seconds of audio and also sends it as an attachment to the alert so that police officers can assess the seriousness of the situation.
How the application works
“Alertcops” is available in the Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store) operating system shops, and is free to download.
After downloading the application, citizens only have to register their terminal as new users by providing their personal details. Once the application is installed, the user can generate an alert by selecting the option that best describes the situation he/she wishes to report to the State Security Forces and Corps through icons. By accepting the confirmation of the alert, the user’s information and location will be sent to the National Police or Civil Guard Service Centre.
