Sant Antoni is the protector of the Mallorcan countryside. Tradition dictates that the animals that were used as work tools or farmyard animals should be taken out into the street to be blessed so that Sant Antoni would prevent them from falling ill during the year.

Consell has joined this tradition and we have enjoyed the feast of Sant Antoni.

The celebrations, which after two years of limitations, were outstanding due to the great popular participation. They began on the 14th with the floats and parades followed by the bonfires in the streets. On Sunday the traditional correfoc of the Demonis de S’Eixam and yesterday the verbena with the Demonis Boiets de Mainou, the bonfire and the burnt rum in the Plaza Mayor together with the popular dance offered by the group of Consell, Sa Sinia.

Today’s Beneïdes have not been able to take the image of Sant Antoni to the façade due to the strong wind, but they have done it with the doors open. Dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, different birds and even turtles passed by to be blessed.
