The IEB showcases Balearic talent

The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, in a joint action with the Institut Ramon Llull, shows the talent of the Balearic Islands at the Chilean performing arts festivals Teatro a Mil and Santiago Off, two important events with great international projection. The IEB is present for the first time at Platea 23, the Programmers’ Week of the International Festival Teatro a Mil, to foster exchange between the Balearic Islands and Chile and to promote reciprocity between Fira B! Professional Music and Performing Arts Market of the Balearic Islands and key agents of the Chilean scene.

The company Hotel Iocandi, formed by the Mallorcan Tomeu Amer and the Catalan Griselda Juncà, will perform the play Peix, today and tomorrow, in this edition of Teatro a Mil. The Mallorcan companies Tshock Cultura Emotional and Hermanas Picohueso will be at Santiago Off. Tshock Cultura Emocional will present Magallanes 2.0 on 27 and 28 January, while the Picohueso Sisters will show the play Lucy Qüin, in collaboration with Teatro Bruma. The Mallorcan artists will perform in Chile together with the Catalan companies Pau Aran, Sarruga, Insectotròpics, Ça Marche and Reinaldo Ribeiro. In total, the Balearic and Catalan companies will give 40 performances in different Chilean cities and venues. In addition, artists, programmers and performing arts distributors from the Balearic Islands and Catalonia will also participate in Platea 23, the Programmers’ Week of the International Festival Teatro a Mil, which will be held until the 22nd. Among them are the Mallorcans: Maria Antònia Oliver, director of the Eima Festival, and Josep Ramon Cerdà, director of the Teatro Principal de Palma, who are participating as programmers with the support of the IEB, together with Catalan representatives of FiraTàrrega, Festival Grec, Danseu Festival, l’Autèntica, La Central del Circ and Sala Fènix, who are there with the support of the Institut Català d’Empreses Culturals (ICEC).

The Chilean-born choreographer Andrea Cruz, a collaborator in the last edition of Fira B!, is also attending Platea 23 to promote exchange between the Balearic Islands and Chile in the field of the performing arts, as well as to publicise the edition of Fira B! 2023 and encourage reciprocity between the Professional Music and Performing Arts Market of the Balearic Islands and key agents of the Chilean scene.

This year, Teatro a Mil celebrates 30 years of history marking major milestones in the world of the performing arts. During this month of January, it has programmed numerous theatre, dance, circus and street art activities.
