Menorca and Baleària

The Fundación Fomento del Turismo de Menorca and the company Baleària will work together to position Menorca as an attractive destination for filming audiovisual productions. The president of the Consell Insular and the FFTM, Susana Mora, and the Balearic Islands delegate of Baleària, Joan Serra, signed a collaboration protocol this afternoon at Fitur to develop joint promotional activities to help Menorca attract filming and shooting.

The cooperation between the FFTM, through the Menorca Film Commission, and Baleària will take the form of joint promotional campaigns to promote Menorca as a film destination and the holding of promotional events in the mainland cities where Baleària has connectivity with Menorca, namely Barcelona and Valencia. The signed protocol also includes the company’s commitment to facilitate the movement of material to the island for filming productions, whether feature films, series or commercials, an aspect that will be specified in a forthcoming collaboration agreement between the two parties.

During the event, President Susana Mora expressed her gratitude for the predisposition and good understanding that Balearia has always shown when it comes to collaborating in the development of differentiating tourism products for the island, such as Menorca’s mandate as a European Region of Gastronomy 2022. On this occasion, it is doing so by contributing to making Menorca a more attractive destination for film productions. “Being an island does not have to be a disadvantage in our options to be chosen by audiovisual companies as a setting for their productions; a natural set, with a great diversity of landscapes and outdoor employment,” added the president.

For his part, the Balearic Islands delegate of Baleària, Joan Serra, highlighted the strategic nature of maritime transport also in the cultural aspect and pointed out “the commitment of the shipping company through its Foundation to promote all initiatives that raise awareness of the island in terms of heritage, nature, gastronomy and others”. Utor also recalled the company’s commitment to guarantee reliable, quality connectivity all year round for both tourists and residents.

The promotion of Menorca as a filming destination is one of the strategic lines of action of the Menorca Tourism Development Foundation (FFTM) for this year. At the end of 2022 the Menorca Film Commission was officially presented, the body with which the FFTM works to promote and facilitate filming on the island, offering advice to production companies and professionals, acting as an intermediary with the administrations that manage different spaces and boosting the external projection of Balearic productions.
