First excursion

This weekend saw the first of the “La llengua camina” excursions, an initiative promoted by the Directorate General for Language Policy as part of the “Mou la llengua” campaign. The aim is to promote the use of the Catalan language and to create spaces for socialising between Catalan speakers and people who want to learn it through cultural trekking.

Around thirty people attended the walk, which covered the lands of Valldemossa, between sa Coma and Son Gual. The route was guided by Joan Carles Palos, from Fita a Fita, who explained local legends and traditions. At the end of the walk, a tasting of coca de patata, a typical local product, was offered.

The “La llengua camina” outings, of which 60% of the places are for learners of Catalan and 40% for Catalan speakers, have been very well received by both groups. The places on the three excursions planned in Mallorca were sold out days ago, and the number of applications tripled the number of places offered. There are still some places left for excursions to the other islands. Reservations can be made at moulallengua.cat.
