A course on Catalan legal language

The Directorate General for Language Policy, with the collaboration of the Department of Public Law at the University of the Balearic Islands, is organising a course on Catalan legal language aimed especially at law graduates and law students, although it is also open to the general public. This is an initiative within the framework of the campaign “La justícia, també en català” (Justice, also in Catalan), which aims to ensure that professionals are prepared to practise their profession in Catalan and thus offer a better service to society.

The course will cover the basic characteristics of the Catalan legal language, will work on controversial aspects of legal drafting and will provide information on the criteria for drafting contracts, lawsuits, resolutions and rulings, among others. Participants will also learn how to use specialised linguistic resources in legal language so that they can become autonomous in resolving linguistic doubts.

The 20-hour course will be held on 7, 14, 21 and 28 March and 4 April, from 16:00 to 20:00. Registrations can be made until 28 February on the website of the Fundació Universitat-Empresa de les Illes Balears.
