Until now, this could only be done in person or by telephone.

The councillor for the Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir, and the manager of the Institut Balear de la Natura (IBANAT), Joan Ramon, visited the Sa Font Coberta camping area on Wednesday. From Thursday onwards, both in this area and in Marjanor and Es Pixarells, it will be possible to book places through the IBANAT huts’ booking website.

The change in the booking system, which until now was made by telephone or in person, will allow bookings to be made up to 45 days in advance. The start date for online bookings will be 27 February.

Mir said he was delighted “with this step forward in guaranteeing access to the natural environment by the Regional Ministry, as we are facilitating the procedures so that everyone can enjoy the protected natural areas and, in this case, can decide how to do so in advance, following the system used for booking the refugees”.

In order to establish a transition period between the two systems, online and face-to-face bookings can be made until 1 June. The price for camping is €5 per person per night for those aged 14 and over.

It should be remembered that the Sa Font Coberta area has a capacity of 200 places and the priority user profiles are mountaineers and families. In comparison, Es Pixarells has 50 homes for families and Marjanor has a capacity for 200 people and is designed for groups of more than 25.

The camping areas have tables, fire pits, toilets, showers and non-drinking water points. In the case of Sa Font Coberta, hot showers are available.

In 2022, a total of 17,931 people spent the night in the camping areas. Specifically, 13,863 did so at Sa Font Coberta, 1,637 at Es Pixarells and 2,431 at Marjanor. April – with 3,135 stays -, October (2,368) and August (2,244) were the months with the highest occupancy.
