Estius Simfònics

The second concert in the OSIB’s “Estius Simfònics” cycle will feature the Pequeña Sinfónica, at Bellver Castle on the 6th of July at 9:30 pm. They will perform a programme featuring Grieg’s Piano Concerto (mov. 1) and Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the young Mallorcan soloists Liam de Paor (piano) and Carme Alzina (violin). The concert is completed with the opening of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and Britten’s Orchestra Guide for Young People, with narration by Pere Estelrich and conducted by the resident conductor Pablo Mielgo.

The Symphony is committed to the new generations with young participants in the summer season and the leading role of the Petita Sinfónica on stage. The project, aimed at music students between the ages of 11 and 18, aims to disseminate symphonic music with a unique experience with the Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears. A total of 40 children will participate in this edition (9 violins, 4 violas, 3 cellos, 2 double basses, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, 6 percussion and 1 harp).

Grieg’s Piano Concerto (mov.1) is a work which, influenced by Norwegian folk music, was well received and Liszt even performed it in Rome. This piece will be performed by pianist Liam de Paor.

Violinist Carme Alzina, a former member of the Petite Symphonie, will perform Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. It is one of the composer’s best-known pieces and is considered one of the most popular in the German Romantic repertoire.

The opening of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and Britten’s Orchestra Guide for Young People, the latter piece with narration by Pere Estelrich, will close the concert.
