VET qualification to improve the training of security professionals

The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training continues to expand the range of vocational training on offer to guarantee the employability of young people and workers.
The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP), has approved this Tuesday the creation of the Intermediate Level Vocational Training qualification of Technician in Safety, belonging to the professional family of Safety and the Environment. In addition, the Government has given the green light to three certificates of professionalism in the Mechanical Manufacturing professional family.

The main competence of the new qualification, which lasts 2,000 hours, consists of carrying out the surveillance and protection of goods and people in public and private spaces, both in urban and natural environments, in compliance with the applicable regulations. It is linked to occupations such as security guards, escorts or rural guards and their specialities and others associated with public security.

With this initiative, the MEFP also aims to improve the quality of training for local and regional police professionals, offering for the first time vocational training for these jobs. Each local and/or regional administration will be responsible for incorporating this training for access to these bodies. This is a request that has been highly demanded by local councils and autonomous communities.

On the other hand, the new certificates of professionalism that have been added today to the Vocational Training catalogue are those of Shielded Gas Arc Welding with Consumable Electrode, MIG/MAG Welding, Shielded Gas Arc Welding with Non-Consumable Electrode, TIG Welding, and Arc Welding with Electrode with Coated Electrode. These are very specific training courses, whose job profiles are highly demanded in the market, with a key role in areas linked to the industrial sector such as energy production, the automotive industry or the design of new industrial products, among others.

The certificates of professionalism constitute the grade C offer, described in the Organic Law for the Organisation and Integration of Vocational Training, which accredits certain competencies for the development of a work activity. There are already a total of 588 certificates of professionalism.

The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training thus continues to expand the Vocational Training system in order to provide citizens with an offer in line with the needs of current job profiles. With those approved today, there are now 36 new training courses recently created by this Government.
