Maintain or improve cognitive skills through memory, attention or reasoning exercises. This is the purpose of the new edition of the Book of Cognitive Stimulation that the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) has presented today at the Teatro Principal of Santanyí. A volume prepared by the professionals of the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and with which they work in the 75 groups in which the memory and social skills workshops 2023-2024 are taught.

“Aging is one more life cycle and must be prepared just as we prepare ourselves when we are young to go to university and then to enter the world of work… From IMAS, we are convinced of the need to continue promoting prevention programs like this one that, in addition to keeping cognitive abilities up to date, favour socialization, prevent situations of unwanted loneliness and procure active and healthy ageing”, highlighted the president of IMAS and councillor of Social Welfare during the event.

More than 1,500 people over the age of 60 have enrolled in this course which, as in previous editions, began in October and will run until the end of June. A team of 13 professionals in psychology, pedagogy, labour and social education are the promoters of the project and authors of the activity booklet, “a dedicated team of which I am very proud. This book has been made with the same energy, dedication and enthusiasm that is contagious to them and to us, and that drives us to continue improving and to bet on the continuity of activities like this one”, said Guillermo Sánchez before a representation of the elderly people who participate in some of the workshops and who were also present at the presentation.

In addition to them, the insular director of Community Care and Promotion of Personal Autonomy of the Consell Insular, Catalina Maria Mascaró and the mayoress of Santanyí, Maria Pons, among other municipal representatives, also participated in the presentation.
