Emergencies and Civil Protection of the Balearic Islands

The Councilor of Presidency and Public Administration of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Antònia Maria Estarellas, attended this morning a conference organized jointly by Emergencies and Civil Protection Illes Balears to celebrate the International Volunteer Day, with the participation of about a hundred volunteers from the Civil Protection groups in Mallorca, Eivissa and Menorca. Estarellas was accompanied by the general director of Emergencies and Interior, Sebastià Sureda, and the manager of the Emergency Management Service of the Balearic Islands (GEIBSAU), Aina Sureda. Estarellas took advantage of the opening of the day to welcome the members of the groups present and to thank them for their “generosity, dedication and absolute involvement in their work at the service of citizens” as volunteers. “You are an example for the whole society”, he added.

The day, which was held at the facilities of the former Son Banya barracks, headquarters of the future School of Public Safety, began with the presentation to the participants of the INFOBAL Plan, the new special emergency plan to deal with forest fires in the Balearic Islands, by the head of the Emergency Coordination Service of the DGEI, Eduardo Parga.

This Special Plan aims to ensure a coordinated, agile and effective response of all public administrations to deal with forest fires and emergencies arising from them that originate in the territorial scope of the Balearic Islands, as well as the establishment of preventive measures and their observance.

The program has been completed with two workshops. The first, on actions in electric and hybrid vehicles in case of emergency, was given by personnel from Bombers de Mallorca. The second consisted of a session on tactical first aid by technicians from the Operational Unit of the DGEI.

The day ended with the delivery of certificates of attendance to all participants.
