The inclusion of the Balearic Islands in a European Commission program for 100% decarbonization by 2030
The news was announced Thursday by the Commission itself through a statement indicating the 30 archipelagos and islands across the continent that have been selected after submitting their projects and roadmap towards a carbon-free energy system.
The Balearic Islands presented their candidacy last September through the General Directorate of Circular Economy, Energy Transition and Climate Change -depending on the Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy- and now, once the decision of the Commission, the Government shows its “enormous satisfaction” before a fact that “demonstrates the commitment and seriousness of this autonomous community and its Government to the energy transition”, in the words of Minister Alejandro Saenz de San Pedro.
For his part, the general director of Circular Economy, Energy Transition and Climate Change, Diego Viu, recalls that the project represents a vital injection in the fight against climate change since the European Commission will provide comprehensive assistance to these territories in the coming years so that they can accelerate their transition to a 100% renewable scenario.
