Calls for more investment in education from the central government
The Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, has sent a letter to the new Minister of Education and Sport of the central government, María de Pilar Alegría, to congratulate her on her recent appointment and also to express his concern about some issues in the field of education.
In the letter, the Minister calls on the central government to invest more in education to strengthen inclusive education, put state-subsidised schools on an equal footing with public schools and guarantee the same conditions, and implement a pilot plan for sustainable and ecological air conditioning in all schools on the Balearic Islands.
In addition, councillor Antoni Vera reminded the new minister of the introduction of free education in all cycles of infant education that has been launched in the Balearic Islands this academic year and which provides for an investment of more than 51 million euros by 2024. On this point, Minister Vera urged Minister Alegría to negotiate for the Ministry of Education and Sport to pay this aid.
On the other hand, the councillor also raised the need for the Ministry to take full responsibility for the obligation to pay Social Security contributions for students of any educational level on training placements. The minister warns that the lack of aid for companies that hire students on work experience could lead to a loss in the quality of students’ learning.
Finally, Antoni Vera urges Minister Alegría to renegotiate the LOMLOE to reform the most controversial points of this educational law and asks that, in the future, the educational community be taken into account.
