Unemployment fell by 3,545 people last month, which implies a decrease of 9.7% in interannual terms.
The Minister of Enterprise, Employment and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, today assessed the data on Social Security affiliation and unemployment recorded last November as positive since “they show the consolidation of the extension of the tourist season and the beginning of the end of seasonality”.
According to the data provided by the Employment Service of the Balearic Islands (SOIB), the autonomous community has registered an increase of 15,587 people affiliated with Social Security in November, up to 492,981 people, 3.3% more if we compare these data with those of November last year. This is the best employment data for November since 2002. In the country as a whole, the average increase in the number of new registrations was 2.6%.
In month-on-month terms, with respect to October, the Balearic Islands show a decrease in affiliation of 15.5%, figures that the Minister has described as logical and predictable, “taking into account the end of the season and the historical data that we recorded last month”.
Unemployment
As for the number of unemployed, in November this figure fell in the islands by 9.7%, which implies a decrease of 3,545 people, if we compare the data with the previous November. Unemployment fell in all the islands, with the exception of Formentera (+36.7%). Thus, in Mallorca unemployment fell by 10.1 %; followed by Menorca, with 9.3 %, and Eivissa, with 8.3 %. In Spain as a whole, unemployment showed a year-on-year decrease of 5.1 %.
It should be noted that the self-employed regime in the Balearic Islands had 98,029 members in November, which represents 19.9% of total registered employment. As a percentage, the number of people opting for this regime increased by 2.2% in November compared to a year ago. Compared with the previous month, this figure fell by 3.5%.
