\ The purchase of the building means a saving of 1.5 million in rent and the relocation of 430 public employees.
The Consell de Govern, at the proposal of the Conselleria de Economía, Hacienda e Innovación, has authorised the purchase of a building located at Calle del Ter, 16, in Palma’s Polígono de Son Fuster, for 20,700,000 euros. This is an office building owned by CaixaBank SA, which has been partially leased by the Autonomous Community since 1 March 2017, and where 425 public employees of the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities provide services.
The Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands has a shortage of available space in publicly owned buildings to house the staff providing administrative services. Currently, the annual expenditure on renting property in the municipality of Palma for administrative use is 3,777,746.85 euros, and the number of public workers providing services is 1,323. This situation makes it necessary to propose measures to rationalise spending and optimise spaces to streamline administrative management and improve citizen access.
The building consists of two towers of equal size, each with five floors for offices, joined on the ground floor, plus three underground floors for parking, storage and miscellaneous outbuildings. The total surface area is 32,134 square metres.
Thus, the acquisition of this building would allow a saving of 1,509,601.05 € in rental costs and relocate a total of 430 public employees currently dispersed in different rented properties, without taking into account the staff of the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities who already occupy practically the entirety of one of the two towers of the building.
