Approved the allocation of 9.8 million euros to subsidies for the purchase of bed elevation mechanisms

The Consell de Govern, at the proposal of the Conselleria de Turismo, Cultura i Esports, has approved to authorize the provision of expenditure amounting to 9.8 million euros for the granting of subsidies for the modernization and innovation in hygiene and cleanliness of tourist accommodation establishments, aimed at the purchase of bed elevation mechanisms, in the framework of the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience, funded by the European Union Next Generation EU.

The call published in 2022 did not exhaust the available credit and at the same time, the implementation schedule of the bed elevation mechanisms reaches the year 2028. Therefore, it is considered necessary to launch a new call to accompany the sector in this transformation.

Within the general objective relating to modernization and innovation in hygiene and cleanliness of accommodation establishments, for an improvement in quality and comfort, as provided for in Law 8/2012, on tourism in the Balearic Islands, accommodation establishments that have voluntarily obtained a star rating and that must carry out at least daily cleaning of the room are required to ensure that all beds in the establishment, except extra beds, are mechanically or electrically elevatable.

In this sense, the cleaning staff of the rooms must be able to operate the elevation of the bed so that the height at which it is placed allows better cleaning of the floor of the room or of the elements on which the bed sits, a measure that will also have an impact on the protection of their occupational health.
