One objective is to create a safe and healthy workplace, and one action to achieve this is the workshops on healthy lifestyles.

Since 2016, Manacor Hospital has embarked on a path towards becoming a Health-Promoting Hospital. It is currently the only hospital in the Balearic Islands to have implemented a specific Action Plan within the framework of the PROCESA programme, promoted by the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs. This plan includes several actions aimed at improving the well-being of professionals, patients, and their families.

One of the key objectives is to create a safe and healthy working environment, and to achieve this, workshops and activities have been developed for the centre’s staff, promoting healthy lifestyle habits. These initiatives include the organisation of monthly outings, which began in 2023 and are led by the hospital staff themselves. These outings not only contribute to physical and mental health, but also strengthen team cohesion and the relationship between colleagues.

So far, more than 300 professionals and family members have taken part in these activities, discovering natural environments such as the Llevant coast – Cova del Moro, Cala Falcó, Es Caló Blanc, Es Bec de Farrutx and the Serra de Tramuntana, with routes such as Sa Moleta de Binifaldó or Puig de l’Ofre.

The March 2025 outing was a special one: forty hikers, including employees and their families, travelled to Menorca to walk four stages of the Camino de Caballos. During the weekend of 29 and 30 March, they completed a total of 34 km: the first day, from Son Xoriguer to Cala Galdana (stages 12 and 13), and the second, from Cala Galdana to Son Bou (stages 14 and 15). The experience was very enriching both for the contact with nature and for the strengthening of personal and professional bonds.

This type of outdoor activity helps to reduce stress, improve physical health and reinforce emotional well-being, favouring a better quality of life. In addition, they promote a healthy lifestyle also among the families of professionals, fostering a more cohesive and healthy community. A healthy professional team is essential to provide quality healthcare, and that is why Manacor Hospital will continue to promote actions that foster positive working environments. This transformation is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity to contribute to a healthier future for everyone.

This approach is aligned with the principles of the Ottawa Charter (1986) and with the Social Strategy for Health Promotion of the Balearic Islands 2016-2026, which stresses the importance of reorienting health services towards health promotion. A health-promoting hospital incorporates this philosophy into its identity, fostering organisational, cultural and decision-making changes that improve the overall well-being of its entire community.
