Inca Town Council has launched a comprehensive plan of action to improve, increase and modernise the municipality’s sports facilities. Specifically, work is currently underway in different public spaces, such as the Balearic Islands Park and the Plaça del Mediterrani, and work will soon begin on the Mateu Cañellas sports centre so that the work will be completed in September.

The Raiguer Town Council will invest more than 200,000 euros in the contract for the supply and installation of sports equipment for the renovation of sports facilities and the creation of new spaces for the promotion of physical activity in the municipality. This special sports investment plan contemplates actions in Pobladors square, Mediterranean square, the sports area in Massanella street, the Balearic Islands Park and the Mateu Cañellas sports centre.

In fact, work is currently underway in the Balearic Islands Park, located in the Crist Rei neighbourhood, where work will also be carried out on the remodelling and maintenance of the indoor football/handball court and the basketball court. The lighting will also be improved and a callisthenics area will be set up.

Work has also begun on the installation of an outdoor fitness circuit in the Plaça del Mediterrani and Plaça dels Pobladors, in addition to those already in place in Plaça Mallorca and Europa Park, among others. “In this way, we are creating new sports areas and fully equipped modern spaces, in accordance with the demands and suggestions of the citizens of Inca,” explains the mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno.

As for the Mateu Cañellas sports centre, a new multi-sports court will be created in the old hockey court and two sets of baskets, a complete set of volleyball equipment, a referee’s chair, and a set of hockey goals and a set of futsal goals will be installed. Three new warm-up areas will also be created next to the athletics track and a multi-sports warm-up track will be built at one end of the area between the football pitch and the athletics track. The athletics track will also be renovated.

Finally, it should be noted that with this new strategic plan for investment in sports facilities, Inca City Council is continuing the project developed in previous years to modernise and renovate public spaces and improve the sustainability and efficiency of the buildings. In previous years, more than 440,000 euros worth of work has been carried out.
