The President of the Central Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, have held a meeting at the Consolat de Mar, after the Spanish leader held the usual summer meeting with King Felipe VI, followed by lunch at the Marivent Palace.
According to the communications department of La Moncloa, Sánchez and Armengol “talked” about the joint work being carried out between the two administrations on the basis of “governance”.
The regional leader has once again claimed the factor of “insularity” as an important element for the economic recovery of the islands, an issue that she has asked the president to have an impact on the General State Budget for the next financial year 2022, and also to make progress on the so-called REB, the Balearic Islands Special Regime.
Armengol assured that both Madrid and the Balearic Islands are working “hand in hand” to ensure that the Ministry of Finance definitively considers the fact of “insularity”, although it is not known when the draft law establishing certain parameters on the matter will be able to be processed.
It has also transpired that the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday approved an allocation of 329.7 million euros from an extraordinary fund to alleviate the effects of Covid-19 in the Balearic Islands, which will amount to 13,486 million euros.
