With the opening of the Convalescence Unit C, three of the four programmes of the General Hospital that were halted during the pandemic by COVID-19 (orthogeriatric, stroke, palliative care and multi-pathological patients) have been recovered. This is an important step forward in restoring the Hospital’s activity.

These twenty new beds have meant a consequent reinforcement of professionals. Eight nurses, nine auxiliary nursing care technicians, orderlies, occupational therapists and physiotherapists have been added.

The Regional Minister of Health, Manuela García, accompanied by the Director General of the Health Service, Javier Ureña; the Manager of Son Espases Hospital, Cristina Granados; the Deputy Director of Chronicity, Estefanía Serratusell; the Medical Director of the General Hospital, Pedro Vida, and the Deputy Director of Nursing, Antonio García Mingorance, visited the refurbishment of the Unit.

The Convalescence Unit C receives patients in the convalescence and rehabilitation phase of traumatic pathologies of fragile patient (such as hip prostheses) and neurological pathologies (such as stroke), who are referred from the Hospital Universitario Son Espases.

The works began in September 2022 and reformed an area of 828.79m 2 of the total surface area of the facilities, for 1,766,592.40 €.

The latest phase of the extensive refurbishment carried out at the General Hospital to modernise the old healthcare infrastructure is the refurbishment of the Convalescence Unit A, which is intended for multi-pathological patients and is currently underway. This refurbishment is included in the framework of the Health Service Infrastructure Plan 2024-2027, with an investment of 434 million euros. Specifically, the planned investment for intermediate care hospitals will be 207.7 million euros.
