Balearic comics will land at the Comic Fair from 3 to 5 May
To promote and give visibility to the comic creation of the Balearic Islands, the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) participates this year with the Comic Cluster of Mallorca and the publishers Autsaider, Dolmen, Escápula and Ominiky with a large shared stand – the Island of the Balearic Comic – in the fair “Cómic Barcelona”, the prestigious event of the sector that is celebrated from 3 to 5 May in the fair of Barcelona.

The IEB, the Clúster de Cómic de Mallorca and four comic publishers
The Island of the Balearic Comic includes a publishing section for book sales and a shared space between the IEB and the Clúster de Còmic and Nous Mèdia, with a programme of professional activities to promote and disseminate the Balearic comic.
Likewise, IEB technician Karen Müller is taking part in Cómic Pro, the space for networking, thought, action and opportunities for the sector offered within the framework of “Cómic Barcelona” to connect the Spanish comic industry with renowned international publishers and agents, make our talents known and generating business opportunities for the participants.
During the days of the fair, the authors Gonzalo Aeneas, Anapurna, Loreto Aroca, Álex Fito, Toni Galmés, Flavia Gargiulo, Jaume Martí, Pau, Pere Joan, Tomeu Pinya, Enric Pujadas, Bartolomé Seguí, Tatúm and Lorena Varea will be signing their recent books in the Illes Balears space.
It should be noted that Toni Galmés has been nominated for the award for best children’s and young people’s comic with the book Molly Wind: Bibliotecarias a caballo, by Catalina González Volar and Toni Galmés with Norma Editorial. The award ceremony will be held on Friday 3 May.
The signings will be accompanied by meetings with the authors, where the public will be able to meet the authors and leaf through their books.
Other activities planned include a talk by Juan Moreno on the magazine ADN, which the cartoonist edits together with Vicent Ferrer; a talk by Pere Joan on “Neocaos: un espacio para el ensayo gráfico”, on the occasion of the publication of the book by Disset Edició (Catalan) and Autsaider (Spanish), and the presentation of the latest comic published by Lorena Varea, Cuando no duela recordarte (When it doesn’t hurt to remember you).
Juan Moreno and Margalida Vinyes also share a special role in the Island of the Balearic Comic Strip, with two large illustrations evocative of the islands, which define the image of the Balearic Islands stand.
The director of the IEB, Llorenç Perelló, who will be attending the Barcelona Comic Fair 2024, stresses that “the participation of Balearic comics helps to make visible the work of the sector in our islands, so valuable and necessary after a few years of standstill”.
