Inspectors from the Office for the Fight against Intrusion and Eivissa Local Police officers inspected eight flats belonging to the same owner.

The Eivissa Island Council’s Office for the Fight against Intrusion and the new special Intrusion unit of the Eivissa Town Council’s Local Police have carried out a joint operation in recent days to fight against irregular tourist flats, which has resulted in the opening of two informative proceedings and the collection of sufficient information to continue the processing of one that was already underway. This is the result of a joint raid in which eight flats belonging to the same owner were inspected.

Three possible tourist flats in a joint action

The vice president and councillor for the fight against intrusion, Mariano Juan, explained that “since the launch of the Office, the paradigm has changed and those who rent illegally know that sooner or later they will be found out. This is the only way to explain the exponential increase in sanctions that has allowed us to collect in recent years more than 2 million euros in fines for tourism management, a record that undoubtedly reflects all the work of many departments of this institution”. In this sense, the councillor explained that “this term of office we are taking another step forward, and we are incorporating the local police of the town councils in this fight, which, as in the case of Eivissa, have shown an absolute willingness to join forces”. Now, we must go a step further and continue working on a legislative modification that allows the municipal police to have more room for manoeuvre”, he concluded.

Eivissa Town Council continues its fight against illegal tourist rentals in the island’s capital and has joined the common front led by the Consell Insular de Eivissa to combat intrusion. “Thanks to the collaboration between institutions and the coordination between the Local Police and the Inspection Service of the Consell Insular de Eivissa, we can act more forcefully against illegals. Unfair competition must be fought effectively. It is essential to act in a coordinated way and that is why we are carrying out joint inspections to send a clear and forceful message to those who do not respect the laws: the properties in our town without a tourist licence are for living in, not for spending a few days on holiday,” said the mayor of the Town Hall. said the mayor of Eivissa Town Council, Rafael Triguero.

Triguero went on to point out that from the first day of his term of office, the Town Council has aimed to control the number of tourists and the establishments in which they stay to improve the coexistence between visitors and residents of Eivissa and to guarantee that the properties are intended for living in, especially in multi-family buildings, where tourist rentals are prohibited.

In the special action against illegal renting carried out this week, the new special unit of Intrusismo of the Local Police of Eivissa has acted. This special police service made its debut last February with a complaint for false documentation in a Vehicle for Transport with Driver (VTC) that was operating with a forged number plate.
