The Consell de Mallorca offers a new free course at the Training Centre Escuela de Margers in the public estate of Raixa

The Department of the Environment, Rural Environment and Sports of the Consell de Mallorca announces a new free course at the Training Centre Escuela de Margers, located on the public estate of Raixa, in Bunyola.

Specifically, it is the ‘Dry Stone Construction-Marger’ course, a training course aimed at preferably unemployed workers, within the ‘SOIB Training at Work for the Unemployed’ subsidy call.

The Margers School is registered in the State Register of Training Entities and can teach the speciality of dry-stone construction.

The second vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard Martínez, ‘has pointed out that these courses are of great importance to us because they allow us to consolidate a traditional trade, thanks to the learning of the people who sign up for the courses’. ‘It is a unique opportunity to preserve and promote Mallorca’s cultural heritage,’ Bestard remarked.

Course content

The course on ‘Dry-stone construction-Marger’ will begin on 8 November 2024 and will run until 3 February 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a duration of 300 hours.

The course offers an introduction to traditional drystone construction techniques. Participants will learn the basic concepts and skills for the construction of dry stone walls and walls, cobblestone paving and complementary dry stone structures.

The number of places on the course is 15. Those interested can pre-register online via the SOIB website or SOIB app https://soib.es/cerca-formacio / or apply in person at the Training Unit of the Department of the Environment, Rural Environment and Sports (c/ General Riera, 111 07010 Palma).
