The presence of Balearic publishers selected through an open call of the IEB

To promote and give visibility to publishers from the Balearic Islands, the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) is once again participating in La Semana del Libro en Catalán in Barcelona. The 42nd edition of the Week began on 20th September and will be open until 29th September. The IEB will participate with a stand, in the Passeig de Lluís Companys, destined to the sale of books by this institution and the Balearic publishers that were selected to attend the fair in an open call.

The Balearic publishers taking part in this year’s edition are Disset Edició, El Tall Editorial, Espelma Edicions, the Instituto de Estudios Ibicencos, the Instituto Menorquín de Estudios and Nova Editorial Moll. They will be at stand number 83.

The IEB will also take part in the Salón de Derechos, a meeting place between the publishers taking part in La Semana del Libro en Catalán and the international publishers invited by the Institut Ramon Llull. During these meetings there will be meetings with different publishers to present the current literary novelties of the Balearic Islands, as well as the programme of grants of the IEB in this cultural field.

In addition, and as every year, the IEB and the Balearic publishers will participate these days in the agenda of activities created by La Setmana. In this 42nd edition, the agenda includes talks, family activities, book presentations, round tables and book signings.

On the 29th of September, from 11:15 am to 2 pm, the Matí de les Balears (Morning of the Balearic Islands) will take place. These activities, organised by the Institute of Balearic Studies, will take place on Stage 1 of the fair.

After the presentation of the activities, at 11:25h, there will be a talk on ‘El procés de creació i la construcció del personatge femení’ by Maria Escalas, author of Matilde E. (La Campana), and Lucia Pietrelli, author of Deimos (Editorial Males Herbes), organised by the IEB and moderated by Melcior Comes, writer.

Then, at 12:05 p.m., there will be a talk entitled ‘Rediscovering Robert Graves in Catalan. Conversa amb William Graves’, organised by Nova Editorial Moll, with William Graves, Eduard Moyà (translator of El crestall rost) and Nofre Moyà (translator of Breus històries mallorquines).

The same morning, at 12:15h, in another location, stage 3, as part of the family activities, Nova Editorial Moll is organising the storytelling ‘El taller imaginari: la Reina dels Embulls’ (The Imaginary Workshop: The Queen of the Embulls). The storyteller will be the author of the book, Aina Zuazaga.

Later, at 12:45 pm, there will be a talk entitled ‘Literature & comics in the Balearic Islands’, with the participation of Miquel Àngel Vidal Pons, writer, and Pere Joan, cartoonist, moderated by the journalist and writer Marga Font, organised by Disset Edició.

Finally, to conclude the day’s Matí de les Balears, there will be an event entitled ‘Creació de personatges en la il-lustració de llibre infantil’, in which Bárbara Sansó, Robert Campillo and Toni Galmés, led by IEB technician Cristina Gaviño, will explain their experience. This activity is organised jointly by Disset Edició, Nova Editorial Moll and the Institute of Balearic Studies.
