September sees the return of the reading clubs, which are growing in number this year thanks to the new monthly club in Mercadal and ‘El relat del mes’ with Ana Haro in Maó.

The Xarxa de Biblioteques de Menorca opens the 2024-2025 academic year with more activities, conferences and reading clubs in a clear commitment to become a cultural and social meeting point of reference on the island, thus responding to the Plan for the implementation of a new model of libraries approved by the Consell Insular de Menorca and the local councils to consolidate libraries as public meeting places and agoras for debate.

The Xarxa de Biblioteques de Menorca starts the academic year with a new session of ‘El món avui: Cicle de Pensament i Actualitat a les biblioteques’ and an activity schedule full of novelties

The writer Patricia Almarcegui will be the protagonist of a new session of ‘El món avui: Cicle de Pensament i Actualitat a les biblioteques’, which will return to the libraries of Maó and Ciutadella on the 25th and 26th of September, respectively. The writer based in Menorca will give a lecture on literature as a tool for representing new sensibilities.

El món avui: Cicle de Pensament i Actualitat a les biblioteques’, a cultural proposal that was born in 2023 to become a space to think about current affairs, encourage dialogue, criticism and debate in society, is consolidated with a long list of personalities who have visited the island. Gaspar Hernández, Flavia Company, Eva Piquer and Gervasio Sánchez are some of the most prominent.

Book clubs

Reading clubs are another mainstay of the Xarxa de Biblioteques de Menorca’s programme for this new academic year. In addition to the already consolidated clubs for adults in Maó, Ciutadella and Es Castell, new ones have been added, such as the first reading club in Mercadal and ‘El relat del mes’ (The story of the month) with Ana Haro in Maó. The meetings of the reading club with perspective and crime novels in Maó, the graphic novels in Ciutadella and Maó and the one in municipalities such as Sant Lluís will also continue.

Storytelling and children’s activities

The Xarxa de Biblioteques de Menorca’s programme will continue to focus on the reading and creativity of the island’s youngest members of the public, and for this new academic year it will maintain the usual activities such as children’s storytelling. The first sessions will arrive this September with ‘Paraules viatgeres: Un recorregut per les llengües d’Europa’, organised by the Govern Balear on the occasion of the European Day of Languages.

Digital Accompaniment

The Xarxa de Biblioteques de Menorca does not want anyone to be left behind in the process of digitalisation of our society. This September sees the return of Acompañament Digital, an activity that is held weekly in all the centres of the Xarxa to help and advise all those who need help with new technologies or online procedures.
