This Thursday, 21st November, at 7 p.m., the proceedings of the XXXVII Jornades d’Estudis Històrics Locals (37th Conference on Local Historical Studies) will be presented in the Assembly Hall of the Archive of the Kingdom of Mallorca.
The XXXVII Jornades d’Estudis Històrics Locals ‘La música en les Illes Balears. Lenguajes sonoros de los años sesenta hasta la actualidad’, were held in 2019, on the 7th, 8th and 9th of November, in the Archive of the Kingdom of Mallorca. The event was attended by musicians, researchers, students, and cultural managers, whose papers revealed numerous studies on music and mass culture in the Balearic Islands.

The Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) presents the XXXVII Conference on Local Historical Studies proceedings
The result of this conference is the publication of the compilation of the eight papers and six communications defended, which deal with the reality of popular music in the Balearic Islands from the 1960s to the present day, together with the presentation of the coordinators of the conference, Tomeu Canyelles Canyelles and Francesc Vicens Vidal.
Next Thursday’s event will be led by Tomeu Canyelles, who will present the published work ‘La música en las Illes Balears. Lenguajes sonoros de los años sesenta hasta la actualidad’ (Music in the Balearic Islands. Sound languages from the 1960s to the present day). In addition, after the event, there will be a musical performance by the Classical Quartet of the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands.
The director of the IEB, Llorenç Perelló, who will be present at the presentation, says that ‘following one of the fundamental axes of the IEB, the presentation of these events is a new opportunity to spread knowledge of the history of our territory among the people of the Balearic Islands’.
