Agents from the Guardia Civil’s Traffic Unit will ensure that the rules are complied with when travelling to school, especially that they drive at an appropriate speed and that they are not distracted at the wheel, two of the most common causes of accidents in this type of vehicle.
The Directorate General of Traffic has launched a new special campaign of surveillance and control focused on school transport until Friday 24 January, given the importance of road safety in passenger transport in general, and even more so in school transport.

Traffic to make sure school journeys are safe
During these five days, both officers of the Guardia Civil Traffic Group and local police officers in those municipalities that decide to join the campaign will be particularly vigilant to ensure that these vehicles drive at the permitted speed and that their drivers do not use mobile phones or other distracting devices, as the most common accidents involving school buses are mainly caused by driving at an inappropriate speed or by distractions. Drivers will also be checked for alcohol and other drugs.
In addition, due to the importance of seat belts in the event of an accident, special attention will be paid to the use of seat belts on school buses that have them installed.
Of course, inspections of these vehicles will also be intensified, checking that the authorisations and documents they must have are the correct ones for the provision of the service. They will also verify that the technical conditions and safety elements of the vehicle are under the regulations, as well as the special requirements that the driver himself must fulfil, such as the driving licence or driving and rest times.
